Backstage ...

In other words, behind the scenes.

What goes on behind the curtain?

In this page is all you need to know about who else is involved with this radio station - people that you never usually see, but who do exist, to help promote the station to be what it is.

CARTER, Peter

Technical

Peter Carter

As well as family life and his work with Community Radio, Peter Carter is active at the Orange Regional Conservatorium and is a Life Member of the Orange and District Amateur Radio Club. He says: “In general, music and electronics have always been my main vices”.

When FM107.5 appealed for members in 2001 Peter joined the management team, specialising in the design and installation work when we moved studios. From mid-2001 to mid-2007 he produced and hosted the station's Sunday music program 'A Touch of Classical' and now (2010) is on the Technical Subcommittee. He began and for a couple of years wrote FM107.5's Saturday CWD column 'On Air'.

Two successful series of radio plays: 'The Other Side' (2004) and 'The Other Side of the Line' (2008), saw him as technical producer doing recording, sound effects and CD production. He also writes and produces announcements for broadcasting and assists with training. Peter Carter strongly advocates the station doing outside broadcasts of ORC concerts.

CENTOFANTI, Steve

Technical Support Member

Steve Centofanti

Steve is one of OCB’s Life Members for his contribution to Orange community radio since 1993.

Steve started volunteering his technical expertise when he was still at school and is still helping the station with his technical knowledge, skills and expertise. Steve lives in Brisbane and supports FM107.5 remotely by keeping in contact with local volunteers on a weekly basis. Steve is involved in setting up and maintaining the computer system which contributes to our broadcasting and he is also involved in building our electronic music library which now features over 4,000 songs.

It’s not uncommon for Steve to spend a whole weekend sorting out a technical problem at the station – even from Brisbane.

FORD, Warwick

Technical

Warwick Ford

Warwick Ford has been a technical mainstay of Orange Community Broadcasters radio station since its inception about twenty years ago.

When FM107.5 was first “getting off the ground” and needed to run test broadcasting, Warwick supplied the necessary equipment as well as building, supplying and borrowing some to get the station on air. Warwick has continued to be involved in FM107.5 by replacing the link between the Kite Street studio and the transmitter on Mt Canobolas and when there’s a transmission problem, Warwick is the one to fix it.

Warwick is generous with his time and assistance to FM107.5 while running his own business of “Fordray Electronics” where he designs and makes FM radio transmitters, microwave links and TV transmitters for private, corporate and government broadcasters, TV stations and isolated mining sites.

Warwick Ford is a Life Member of OCB in gratitude of his valuable assistance and support to community radio in Orange over many years.

GREGORY, Denis, OAM.

News column publicity

Denis Gregory

Denis started writing the FM107.5 weekly news column in the “Central Western Daily” in 2009.

Denis has been a journalist all his life, working on country newspapers in a variety of roles including sub-editor and editor. He also had two years as media adviser to the deputy president of the Senate and for the past 22 years, excluding the two years at the Senate, has written country stories for the Sydney Sun-Herald, other Fairfax publications and various magazines.

Denis has written a hard-bound coffee table book commissioned by the NSW Department of Agriculture called “Camden Park, the Birthplace of Australia’s Agriculture”, and a second coffee table book two years ago called “Great Houses of Australia”. Other books he has written include a light hearted look at the colourful characters he has met called “There’s Some Bloody Funny People on the Road to Broken Hill”, another called “It’s All About Australia Mate” and in a change of pace, one of Exisle Publishers little red books series on “Australia’s Great Explorers”.

Denis has won seven awards for journalism, two of them national, and in 2004 was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to country NSW through journalism.

McKENZIE, Andrew

Technical Manager

Doug Spicer

Andrew McKenzie is one of the “mainstays” of FM107.5 having joined as a member in 2000 as a morning presenter and to help “whittle down” a very large debt. To date, Andrew has worked in the roles of President, Treasurer, Committee Member, Presenter, Technical Support and he is now our Technical Manager on the Technical Subcommittee.
Andrew keeps FM107.5 on air and makes sure we’re always wired for sound by maintaining our computerised equipment and doing the weekly traffic logs as well as recording sponsorships and “always being available”. He has been working on improving the quality of our signal from 600W to 1kW with plans to extend it to 5kW during the next twelve months.

Andrew works in the Pathology Department at Orange Base Hospital and spends many hours of volunteer work at FM107.5 every week. He is instrumental in obtaining CBF Equipment Grants for the station so we can keep improving our services to the Central West communities.
